Dholera SIR, a humble town in the state of Gujarat can be best described as a place comprising mainly of farmers or villagers with small time occupation barely being able to make both ends meet. Having three meals a day is a struggle they have to live with every day.
However
situation has suddenly flipped and the small town is seeing the light of day
with it being included in the “100 Smart city plan” and declared as a “Special
Investment Region” by the Government of India.
Built along the
DMIC corridor, often referred to as a “corridor of possibilities”, the fate of Dholera
City has changed forever; from a small town lost in the crowd to gaining the
status of the First Smart City
Of India. A city covering 920 square kilometers of land and envisioned
to be six times bigger than Shanghai.
Smart Cities Infrastructure: -
Dholera Smart City which currently looks like a typical rustic countryside shall be adorned
with shining skyscrapers, flyovers, beautifully designed gardens; a landscape
that shall be rivaled by the most affluent cities in India and abroad. It also
promises of creating huge employment opportunities and world-class facilities
that include state-of-art infrastructure, power supply, incessant water on
every tap, underground sewerage system, clean surroundings, reduced pollution
and the long list continues. The city shall witness a complete makeover.
Easily accessible
owing to its nearness to the sea port, a new Dholera International Airport
is also in the making in Dholera. This airport shall be located 100 kilometers
from Ahmedabad connecting Dholera to most of the important cities of the world.
It is also expected to replace Dubai airport which currently serves as the world
hub for airport connectivity. It shall have two runways of 2900 metres and 4000
metres each and is expected to share the traffic burden of Ahmedabad airport by
2023-24.
Dholera Smart City Development Ground Report:-
Conglomerates
like HCC, Mahindra Lifespace, Tata Solar Plant, Zydus, Suzlon, Essar, Google, JioPhone
Airbus, L&T etc. around 500 companies have declared huge investments in the
region in the Gujarat. These projects are expected to generate vast employment
opportunities and are expected to attract investments from all over the world.
In the long run, they shall also attract other companies to consider investing
in Dholera Special Investment
Region.
As per a local
resident of Dholera, the population of the village used to be 45,000
(approximately) in the 1920s and started declining from there owing to lack of
opportunities and infertile land. The population currently stands at 2,500
(approximately). However development of the region as a smart city has brought
a turnover of events and the land which farmers owned is now fetching them
hefty amounts. Farmers who earlier struggled to make both ends meet are now minting
millions by selling the much in demand land. The population is expected to
reach 10-12 lakhs by the year 2020.
Positivity is
surrounding the region and the residents have just got lucky overnight- Thanks
to Modi’s smart city vision!
